Jack
Welcome to the A-Z English podcast. My name is Jack and I’m here with my co-host social. And today we are going to do a quick talk episode and the question is what is your favorite?
00:00:25
Jack
Disney movie what is your favorite Disney movie?
00:00:30
Xochitl
Yeah, that’s a hard one.
00:00:32
Jack
Yeah, I’ll let you jump in first.
00:00:34
Xochitl
Well, I guess Pixar was bought by Disney.
00:00:40
Xochitl
So I’m gonna go against the grain just because so many of the classics battle it out for the first place in my heart.
00:00:48
Xochitl
And say.
00:00:51
Xochitl
Luca from Pixar?
00:00:53
Xochitl
Is one of my favorite.
00:00:55
Xochitl
Have you seen that one?
00:00:55
Jack
Really, no, I haven’t seen it yet.
00:00:58
Xochitl
I feel like you have to see it because I love all the classics. There’s so much nostalgia there. I can’t just pick one.
00:01:06
발표자
There’s the new.
00:01:07
Xochitl
Movies that have come.
00:01:09
Xochitl
Luca is the first movie I saw in a long time I saw. I think it came out in like 2019 or 2020.
00:01:18
Xochitl
That made me feel.
00:01:19
Xochitl
Like I was a child again.
00:01:22
Xochitl
It had so much like nostalgic feel.
00:01:26
Xochitl
And so much like.
00:01:30
Xochitl
It just it was a beautiful original story and it was very nostalgic and it made me feel like a child again. And it was full.
00:01:36
Xochitl
Of so.
00:01:37
Xochitl
Much childlike wonder, and it was beautiful. I just loved it. And.
00:01:44
Xochitl
Yeah, I think.
00:01:48
Xochitl
I I think that’s gonna have to be my favorite for that reason.
00:01:51
Jack
OK. Well, I’m just surprised you chose. You chose a rather new movie, like Lucas pretty.
00:01:52
Xochitl
How about you, Jeff?
00:01:57
Xochitl
I know.
00:01:58
Jack
And it’s also maybe one of the one of the lesser known Star Movies.
00:02:03
Xochitl
No new ones. Yeah, it’s like an underrated thing, but it’s beautiful. It’s a beautiful movie. You have to watch.
00:02:07
Jack
Right.
00:02:10
발표자
I think it got good.
00:02:11
Xochitl
It but yeah.
00:02:12
Jack
Reviews, you know, critics liked it. I just think it just didn’t resonate with people. Probably.
00:02:19
Jack
You know, maybe sometimes it’s something as as simple as just the name. They probably looked at it. Look, they don’t know what it’s about. It’s not, you know, it’s not like Toy Story, which is a story about toys, you know, it’s.
00:02:31
Jack
Like what’s Luke? What is?
00:02:31
Xochitl
Right. Well.
00:02:34
Jack
A Luca. I don’t know what that is. I’m not gonna, you know, watch it.
00:02:38
Xochitl
Think it was released like in a bad time like theaters had just shut down because of COVID 2 and like I believe part of the the animation and like voice acting and stuff had to be done from home because of the virus.
00:02:53
Jack
OK.
00:02:54
Xochitl
Because I think it came out in like 2020 and it like was.
00:02:57
Xochitl
Finished. You know, they finished working on it in 2019. I’m not 100% on that, but it was something like that. So it was difficult.
00:03:06
Jack
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It’s a lot of stuff. Got lost in the shuffle of COVID-19. Just maybe some classics kind of slipped under the radar and people missed out on them. And so, I mean, this is good. Like, you’re giving it a good endorsement here.
00:03:08
Xochitl
But it was.
00:03:24
Xochitl
Yeah, watch it.
00:03:25
Jack
Audience members check out Luca. Yeah.
00:03:29
Xochitl
Yeah. How about you, Jack?
00:03:31
Jack
I’m going to go.
00:03:33
Jack
I’ve got a couple deep cuts here these.
00:03:36
Jack
Are I’m torn between 2:00. The first one is the black cauldron. Have you ever heard of this movie? The black cauldron?
00:03:46
Xochitl
No, I think this is before my time, Jack.
00:03:49
Jack
This came out in 1985.
00:03:52
Xochitl
Yeah, that’s like 10. That’s eleven years before I was even born.
00:03:57
Jack
This is when they used to still draw draw the uh movies. You know, they had one guy in an office drawing all the the all the, you know, pictures.
00:03:57
발표자
OK.
00:04:08
발표자
I don’t know.
00:04:10
Jack
But yeah, this was very much kind of like.
00:04:15
Jack
Kind of like a dungeons and Dragons. Kind of a story. You know, elves and and witches. And, you know, obviously called right. And the cauldron was black as far as I remember.
00:04:24
발표자
Right.
00:04:29
Jack
I don’t really remember this movie at all, like I can’t remember the story, but I it is the first movie that I ever saw in a movie theater.
00:04:40
Jack
So 8 years old, seven or eight, and it’s the first time I had ever gone to the cinema. And so that was the I, I I as soon as I walked out of that movie theater, I’m like, turned to my cousin. And I said that’s my favorite movie I’ve ever. That’s the best movie I’ve ever seen in my life.
00:05:00
Jack
You know well it was.
00:05:02
Jack
The only movie I’ve ever.
00:05:03
Xochitl
That’s it.
00:05:03
Jack
Seen. Yeah, in a movie theater. But yeah. But it was. It has a special place in my heart for, and it’s not considered a Disney classic at all. As a matter of fact.
00:05:14
Jack
UM, it got a lot of bad press or publicity because it was said to be demonic and you know, like.
00:05:24
Jack
You know, witches and all this. Yeah, yeah.
00:05:25
Xochitl
Witchcraft and all that.
00:05:28
Jack
All that sort of stuff.
00:05:31
Jack
The second one that I really enjoyed, I saw when I was in my mid 20s.
00:05:37
Jack
Our early 20s and it was called the Emperor’s New Groove.
00:05:42
Xochitl
Oh my God, I loved that. That was like one of my. That was my other contender for top. I was like, you know, this is my favorite. I love this one. It’s updated. I was about when you were done. Just telling your second one I was gonna be. I was gonna go and be like if we can do 2 then emperors new groove is up there and it’s so funny because you just said I’m for his.
00:05:46
Jack
Yes, in such an underrated movie.
00:05:50
Jack
Right.
00:06:01
Xochitl
New groove and that’s definitely one of my favorites.
00:06:03
Xochitl
Alright, go ahead and explain.
00:06:04
Jack
Why you I love it. Because it’s so weird.
00:06:08
Jack
Weird. It’s like it’s wickedly strange, right? It’s way. It’s weird. Funny. It’s absolutely weird. Funny. Like the there’s just. It’s so punchy. Like, there’s so many jokes. It just one after the other. And the old lady character, the Eartha Kitt, is the voice is so.
00:06:10
Xochitl
Anything funny?
00:06:26
Xochitl
Yeah, yeah.
00:06:28
Xochitl
8-9.
00:06:29
Jack
Over the top and her like man, slave kind of guy. It’s so funny.
00:06:33
Xochitl
Yeah, crunch. Yeah.
00:06:37
Xochitl
It was funny because, like I’ve seen, I rewatched this movie periodically. I’ve seen all the classics, but emperors. New groove is like on the top of.
00:06:44
Xochitl
Ones that I rewatched.
00:06:47
Xochitl
And it’s so funny. And there’s, like, so many things that as an adult, because I I saw it as a little kid, I saw this in theaters. I saw them, this new group in theaters.
00:06:56
Xochitl
The little kid, really little kid I was.
00:06:58
Xochitl
Like less than six years.
00:07:00
Xochitl
Old when it came out.
00:07:02
Jack
That’s so funny.
00:07:02
Xochitl
And I found it.
00:07:04
Xochitl
To be so funny. Yeah. And you’re in your 20s. Yeah, that makes sense. I was like, I found it to be very funny.
00:07:12
Xochitl
And as an adult, there’s so many.
00:07:15
Xochitl
Things about being.
00:07:15
Xochitl
A pick up on.
00:07:18
Jack
Yeah. It’s not a kids movie. I mean, it’s a kids movie, but there are a lot of, like, a lot of jokes.
00:07:24
Jack
In there for.
00:07:24
Jack
Adults see we when I saw my my roommate.
00:07:28
Jack
Was a worked for a worked for Fox.
00:07:33
Jack
On the fox.
00:07:33
Jack
Lot in Los Angeles, so she would get boxes of movies before they’re released, you know, so that people could watch them. The Academy could vote. So you know, because they’re some of the people in her office were Academy members.
00:07:34
Xochitl
Ohh cool.
00:07:50
Jack
And so they get to vote for the best movies, but they don’t watch the movies in the movie theater. They have to watch them at home. And at that time it was all on tapes. So she would come home with three or four brand new movies that weren’t even in the theater.
00:08:06
Jack
That and we would like watch them on TV. And so we she’s like, let’s watch the Emperor’s new.
00:08:13
Jack
Groove and I was like.
00:08:14
Jack
Want to watch this stupid Disney movie? This is going to be ridiculous, and then we popped it in and we were just howling like it was so funny. Ohh my gosh, it’s such a funny movie and I think people that don’t know about it. But if you watch it, you will.
00:08:18
Xochitl
Right.
00:08:24
Xochitl
That’s fine.
00:08:35
Jack
Find it funny. It is just funny. Yeah.
00:08:36
Xochitl
You don’t like it?
00:08:39
Xochitl
It was like on the edge of the Disney Renaissance or something like that. And it was like they gave. They greenlit it because they the studio didn’t really know what to do. I read about this at some point and I, and I’m gonna misquote a lot of information because I don’t remember.
00:08:56
Xochitl
It fully what?
00:08:57
Xochitl
They said, but it was something like they.
00:09:00
Xochitl
It the project because the studio didn’t really have a direction at the time and.
00:09:08
Xochitl
They just went ham with it. Basically they were allowed to do all the jokes and all the crazy characters and everything and the characters are so different from any Disney.
00:09:21
Xochitl
Movie because, uh, Cisco, the Emperor is not.
00:09:28
Xochitl
Really a great guy at the beginning. He’s a horrible guy. Yeah, and.
00:09:32
Jack
Right, right.
00:09:35
Jack
He’s not likeable. He’s a David spade. He’s the the, he’s a comedian and he’s a sarcastic comedian. Like, that’s his whole stick. Yeah.
00:09:44
Xochitl
Yeah, he’s very unlikable.
00:09:49
Xochitl
And Isma has kind of like a.
00:09:53
Xochitl
A man, save Cronk.
00:09:55
Xochitl
And umm, it’s just a funny kind of premise, especially if you’re older and and they color out cause like, oh, is this your new one?
00:10:03
Xochitl
You guys. Yeah, I did.
00:10:05
Jack
Right. It’s like the it’s like a May may December relationship you know the the old woman has this like young, you know, muscle muscular guy.
00:10:12
Xochitl
Young guy, he was 28 years old and he’s like, really muscular and young and like, it’s just a funny.
00:10:20
Xochitl
It’s a funny premise because.
00:10:23
Xochitl
Everything about the movie is just like bizarre, but yeah, this is definitely one of my up there with my favorites and it’s an underrated thing too.
00:10:31
Xochitl
Definitely underrated fave.
00:10:34
Xochitl
Yeah. Well, let us know. UM, what your favorite Disney movie is and give our favorite to try. I guess. Jack and I both recommend the Emperor’s New Groove. I recommend Luca and Jack recommends a black coloring, which I’ll have to go watch now because I honestly haven’t heard of it.
00:10:49
Xochitl
So yeah, and we will see you guys next time.
00:10:54
Jack
Alright, bye bye.
