In this episode of The A to Z English Podcast, Jack explains the meanings of two idioms:
“As nutty as a fruitcake”: This idiom means extremely eccentric, strange, or irrational. Fruitcakes are often considered bizarre due to their dense texture and mix of various fruits and nuts. Therefore, comparing someone or something to a fruitcake implies a high level of peculiarity.
“Jumping out of the frying pan into the fire”: This idiom means to go from a bad situation to an even worse one. It suggests making a decision or taking action that initially seems to improve the situation but ends up causing more problems. The imagery evokes the idea of escaping danger only to find oneself in a more perilous situation.
