Jack

Welcome to the A-Z English podcast. My name is Jack and I’m one of the hosts of the podcast and today I am without social, but I have may from Malaysia filling in for social may. How are you today?

00:00:46

May

Doing very well, Jack. How about you?

00:00:48

Jack

I’m doing pretty well actually. Thanks for asking and what I’m going to do today is I’m going to read a would you rather question and this is a would you rather question that May sent to me and me you already know the question, but I’m going to ask it anyway, so our listeners can hear it and.

00:01:04

May

Alright, sure.

00:01:04

Jack

They can.

00:01:04

Jack

Answer. So the question is.

00:01:06

Jack

Would you rather have a partner?

00:01:09

Jack

Who is an amazing cook but terrible at cleaning, or a partner who is a neat freak but can’t cook? And what is a neat freak? Maybe for our listeners out there you could explain what a neat freak is.

00:01:25

May

To me, I would say a person who.

00:01:31

May

Expert on like doing cleaning job at home.

00:01:35

Jack

Right. Everything’s got to be perfect, right? They’re just they never stop cleaning. They’re just like everything’s got to be perfect in the right place. And they’re. Yeah, a neat freak. Yeah. So me, would you rather?

00:01:50

Jack

Have a partner who is a great cook, an amazing cook, but never cleans up, or a partner who is a neat freak but never cooks.

00:02:04

May

I would prefer a a partner who can cook very well because.

00:02:12

May

I in first class I don’t know how to cook.

00:02:16

May

So I I definitely I need someone to cook for me.

00:02:21

May

And I mean, I I love eating.

00:02:24

May

Like solid food like.

00:02:26

May

Maybe probably rice with a few dishes every day.

00:02:31

May

And then I mean all proper meal, I I prefer proper meal to be every day. So and in regards to the training part, I can do the.

00:02:42

May

Cleaning job I.

00:02:43

May

I have no problem of doing that.

00:02:45

May

So in this.

00:02:46

May

Case my partner will cook and I will clean everything.

00:02:50

Jack

Wow, OK, interesting.

00:02:51

May

So yeah, so.

00:02:53

Jack

So you’re going to do the dishes.

00:02:55

Jack

You’re going to clean the.

00:02:55

Jack

Pots and pans you don’t mind?

00:02:58

May

Yeah, I’m not gonna. I can clean the pan kitchen and maybe. And you usually have to cooking. We need to, like, clean the surface or floor a little bit. So.

00:03:09

May

I and I’m I’m fine with being on that as long as I get my food ready.

00:03:17

Jack

If you get your food, you’re like I’ll. I’ll do anything. I’ll clean. Yeah, no problem.

00:03:23

May

Because yeah, because we can’t be eating outside anyway. So I prefer someone to cook for me. I think that’s.

00:03:29

May

Only need to be like.

00:03:32

May

Many dishes in a day at least.

00:03:35

May

There’s something purple like, as I mentioned earlier, rice. I wanted two dishes.

00:03:42

May

That is enough.

00:03:42

Jack

Some vegetables and some meat, right? Something like that, yeah.

00:03:45

May

Alright, meat and vegetable, that’s enough.

00:03:48

Jack

OK. OK. Well, that’s pretty simple. That was simple request, but I’m going to go with. I’m going to go the other direction because I don’t really. I’ll eat anything. I don’t care. So I’ll just open the refrigerator and I’ll just take a spoon and with some peanut butter, I’m happy. Like, that’s fine for me.

00:03:53

May

What do you prefer?

00:04:00

May

OK.

00:04:07

Jack

But I hate cleaning. I hate it.

00:04:11

Jack

So much so.

00:04:12

Jack

So if some if I’m, if my partner is a neat freak and just doesn’t mind always cleaning and just organizing and cleaning everything, then I’ll even this is not part of the question, but I would even cook.

00:04:26

Jack

Like I’ll cook.

00:04:28

Jack

If the other person cleans, I’ll do that because I really hate cleaning. I just don’t like it at all. I I hate it.

00:04:36

May

So you will cook and then lift all the cooking sauce in the kitchen.

00:04:40

Jack

I will not.

00:04:41

Jack

I will not touch a dish.

00:04:43

Jack

Or a pan no.

00:04:45

May

Your wife, the case. You can turn it the other way around, where you will do all the cooking job and your wife will have to clean everything.

00:04:55

Jack

Right. And I don’t even mind because like, if I can just cook something and then I can just walk away and go sit on the sofa and watch television and it’s OK and my partner is not angry.

00:05:09

Jack

Then I’m really going to be happy with that situation, so I will happily.

00:05:14

Jack

Cook. I’ll, I’ll I’ll. I’ll download recipes off the Internet. I’ll. I’ll cook gourmet meals. You know salmon. I’ll do everything. I don’t care. I’ll learn how to make sushi. I’ll do whatever. Just don’t make me clean. Any pots and pans? That’s all I ask. That’s my only request.

00:05:34

May

So expect to see or try new dishes every day.

00:05:38

Jack

New dishes every day. Different countries, cuisines. I’ll, I’ll try everything. So, Moroccan couscous. I’ll I’ll cook some nasty fat. Nasty. Yeah, exactly. No problem. Thai dishes. Japanese. Yeah, I’ll. I’ll go all around the globe. Yeah, no problem.

00:05:59

May

Great. Nice to know, Jack.

00:06:01

Jack

Yeah. Yeah. So, but it’s not, it’s not the reality of my life. So I I I have to do some cleaning in my real life and I don’t do a lot of cooking.

00:06:11

Jack

Maybe, maybe, maybe the other way to do it would be I can just work really hard to save money and then I can just order food every night from a, you know, delivery service and just pay for that. And then I don’t have to clean. That would be OK too. That might be the perfect solution.

00:06:29

Jack

I don’t know.

00:06:30

May

So yeah, in that case you need a cook and a cleaner so you don’t have to do anything.

00:06:34

Jack

In the cleaner, yeah.

00:06:35

Jack

So I don’t have to do anything.

00:06:38

Jack

  1. Hello, dear teacher Jack!
In my point of view, this question may be divided regarding who is your partner. If your partner is a male then it’s ordinary for men to be a good cook but not to be a neat freak. If your partner is a female then sometimes women don’t like cooking but do cleaning. I read that by some researches men have more abilities to cook than women. In my country there are a lot of men-cookers. As the film with Steven Seagal where he’s a cook on the ship.
Ultimately, it’s all about finding a healthy balance and sharing responsibilities in a way that suits both partners’ preferences and strengths.

    Hi I liked this episode!
To be honest I’m neat freak haha but I love to cook and I would rather have a partner neat freak and I cook absolutely.
